Mountain Biking - The famous 7 staines mountain biking tracks in Dalbeattie forest are only 5 minutes away

Threave Gardens are just outside Castle Douglas, beautiful gardens and for those who don´t want to pay to get in!, there is a "kissing gate" walk around the perimeter of the Castle, takes about an 1 hour, and it keeps the children entertained opening and closing the gates. (Suitable for a buggy)

The area of the Solway Coast has some beautiful beaches "sandyhills" being one of them (approx 10 mins in car) Children will love it here. Area is also known to the locals as the "Golden Triangle", Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford.

Kippord Caravan Park has a small playarea in it with a deathslide which my children love!

Local Eating Places

80 steps to The Anchor cannot beat that!, Good pub grub, big portions, though they do half portions for everybody, and children´s sizes, get in early at weekends as it gets busy and you can´t book.

The Mariner - gives you the option if you are looking for children friendly to let the children play outside, again great pub grub.

The Clonyard - Excellent food, old detached stone villa, set in nice grounds, approx 5 minutes drive.

For a coffee, Designs Gallery and Café in Castle Douglas is very trendy, with nice garden at the back to sit out, nice cakes!
